Are Zhu Zhu Pets Toxic?

The most popular toy this holiday season, Zhu Zhu Pets that was selling out fast last Black Friday and Cyber Monday, seems to have a big problem. Zhu Zhu Pets are toxic according to consumer watchdog group called Good Guide. Zhu Zhu Pets level of the chemical called antimony is way beyond the allowable. The federal limit for this chemical in products is 60 parts per million, but the Zhu Zhu's have 93 parts per million.

Here is the rating of the Zhu Zhu Pets Hampster Mr. Squiggles-Light Brown:

- This product contains tin, which is potentially harmful to the immune and nervous systems.

- This product contains antimony, which may be linked to cancer, lung, and heart problems.

- Compared to other companies, this company does an average amount of charitable giving and may have a volunteer program for its employees.

Now that this news is out, expect more tests to be conducted on the Zhu Zhu Pets nad if confirmed that the Zhu Zhu Pets are toxic, recall of the toys will follow.

Zhu Zhu Pets are made in China, but the company, Cepia LLC, is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Good Guide’s founder said he was not calling for a boycott or recall. He wants parents to make their own decisions about the toys, but he does advise parents to hold on to the receipts.
